Yet, if play test feedback shows comprehension issues with your principle characters... you might need to increase the name dropping to help . Lone Echo has two main characters, not a huge cast. We still found we needed to up how often we hit the names in the beginning.

That's a separate issue from the artistry of good dialog writing though. In general, yes, you should use all your best tricks to settle people into your story and its characters. But when writing natural sounding dialog, it's useful to dump the constant name dropping.

100% agree! :-) The only other time we do name dropping in Lone Echo is it can be helpful when addressing the player specifically to use their name when you are wanting to gain their attention (I know, another separate issue).
