today I started my first Certora formal verification contest. It's shocking how CVL analyzes code and ensures it mathematically. static analysis and fuzzing may miss bugs but formal verification will never miss them!

Formal Verification has a reputation of being an academic exercise applied to a finished product. FV is actually a practical tool to help squash bugs at the earliest stages of development. More myths dispelled by the team here 👇

0/ Formal verification is highly respected in DeFi because it ensures accuracy and immutability of contracts. @aaveaave, @coinbase, @MakerDAO and many more rely on FV. However, there are 5 common myths about formal verification that need to be debunked 👇

4/ Myth: Blockchain systems are too complex for FV, which must model exact machine semantics Fact: Blockchains have a simple, abstract interface with well-defined semantics. You don’t need to worry about complex details like network communication or cryptographic primitives.

3/ Myth: Formal verification is tough because of computational cost. Fact: The real challenge is defining the required properties (specification). We verified 12 interesting smart contract in V3 with 3770 lines of Solidity code

2/ Myth: FV is only useful AFTER the code is mature. Fact: Do it early in the development process, when it's easier to fix bugs. Plus, integrating FV into CI can prevent mistakes from being introduced with code changes.

1/ Myth: Formal Verification (FV) only confirms the absence of bugs. Fact: Its main value is discovering specific bugs and preventing them before they can be exploited. found a mistake the fundamental equation of DAI using FV

I’m quite sure formal verification is the next step in web3 audit contests. An audit only verifies a snapshot of the code, while a set of properly written rules can be verified upon each change in the code. I've been playing with ’s prover and it really blew my mind!
