I have been my grandma's caretaker for 4 yrs. She now has mid-stage dementia. This is the most difficult position I've been in and I'm a Marine. My generation sickens me that they won't take care of their family. Although it's hard as hell, no one will take care of her like me.

That being said, sometimes there is no choice but a home. My grandma should probably be in one for my own sanity but she doesn't have the money or insurance for it. She falls almost every day. This situation has made me think of the circle of life in a whole new way.

You know what is sick? The lack of help cargivers are given. I moved in with her and now I'm bound to her home 24/7, unless I dare leave to get her meds. It cost min $15/hr to hire someone so I can have a break. I could write a book on the lack of help our elders & caretakers get

I’m old school so i believe in taking care of parents who raised us, clothed us, provided shelter, etc. I understand this is not always the family dynamic & others are dysfunctional, but for families who are not, the way you can pay back your parents is caring for them.
