They want Amazon to not be in control of Brazil. There R instances where European leaders R caught by the BR army exploring Amazon wo notice & disregarding the sovereignty of the gvmt over it. They want to exploit it for its riches then end like it they did with European forests.

Read up on "swidden agriculture." These fires are not a big deal. In fact, not only will the jungle grow back stronger than before, but humans using such agricultural practices may have literally created the rain forest that exists today.
