We are home schooling. And hearing from more and more that they are going to also / are working on finances to be able to have one spouse leave workforce to home school. Biggest cultural trend in 10 years will be home schooling.https://twitter.com/BennettJonah/status/1164603297925234688 …

We will be home schooling too. No way I'm sending my boys to the ChildFarm for 7 hours a day.

What you will find out is that actual instruction time takes only a portion of the day, leaving a lot of time for library, field trips, team sports, bike riding.....

I never set foot in a “classroom” The real benefit was that I was free to EXPLORE learning on my own. Reading and learning were FUN

I use to feel that way, but the truth is many children would suffer. Not everyone’s parents are invested in their children’s education/development. For some unfortunate children, public education, however flawed, is the only chance they have.

My oldest is in a small Christian private school... $400 /month or so, but worth every penny. Even the teachers I know HATE how public schools are ran... Why would I send my kids there?

Think of schools as a place to send your kids not for learning, but for the social experience.

The artificial school-only social experience that every smart person hated growing up? No thanks. Many of the most capable people in history started as loners and we moderns are over-socialized. Anyway, school isn’t the only venue for social life, just the easy default.

This concept, that if nothing else school at least gives us socialization, is a meme, and a BS one. School is largely state sponsored babysitting/brainwashing, and you get Lord of the Flies “I have no prefrontal cortex yet” “socialization”, if you can call it that :/

Apart from schools, it’s rare for “socialization” to mean mandatory time spent with people with whom the only thing you have in common is your age. There’s relatively little marginal value to socialization with immediate age peers vs just about any other group.

Yes - the school social experience is a very niche social situation that is rarely seen in the real world. Due to this limitation, the social learning value from school is constrained. It's like only learning how to park, and then thinking you can drive a car.

We started homeschooling in 2006. Best decision. Two of my three kids started dual-credit college classes at ages 15 and 16. Graduated high with 30 college hours!
