I guess the point is that the democrats' proposals are so weak that the results would indiscernible from an actual open borders policy.

That may be your point — but since that point is wrong on the facts, who cares?

Then inform me of the facts that I have wrong or am missing of the Democrat's proposals that would deter illegal entry in the US. It seems you are only arguing semantics.

Do you really think the fact that crossing the border is currently a misdemeanor, such that if you get caught you get deported *and* have a misdemeanor unlawful entry charge on your rap sheet, is deterring *anybody* from crossing the border who otherwise would? That’s the change.

Replying to @ilanagain @AaronDeWolf and
Decriminalization wouldn’t end deportations of unlawful entrants (which would be “opening the borders”), it just would remove the misdemeanor charge from the equation.

So really all these complaints about detention facilities and family separation are platitudes and pandering because they fully intend to implement the same policies as Trump and Obama?

Nope, it would definitely prevent y’all from running concentration camps! Unfortunately for your argument, though, there are several options between “corralling unlawful immigrants into hellish conditions where children keep dying” and “doing nothing about it.”

I don't follow. If decriminalization ends detention, then I don't see how it isn't a defacto open border.

I had family members murdered in the Holocaust; don’t you *dare* tell me what lessons to take from their deaths. And it came out yesterday that Trump has separated 900 kids from their families since “ending the policy.”

By this logic, no one should be able to tell angel moms whose children were murdered by illegal immigrants anything.

No, it would mean that nobody should tell the parents of children murdered by illegal immigrants that they’re improperly invoking their child’s memory, which seems to me to be an obvious point of human decency.
