Painkillers are the only reason my husband can function in society, his career and within his roles of as a father at home. He's an incredible leader, devote man of principle and despite an autoimmune condition laying war against his bones, he is incredibly healthy and active.
-
Painkillers are the only reason he can function in society as of now. But it’s not the only thing that can diminish pain. Keep searching. Almost all man-made chemicals lead to more disease in the end. It’s a quick fix to a bigger problem, it’s not the cure, and it’s not the best.
-
It's the absolute best for his condition. Blanket generalizations about "pain killers bad" "opioid epidemic" "big pharm war" all have consequences to those who need medicine to function. Find better ways to curb recreational epidemics, not at the suffering of those in need.

She may be kind of nutty but I agree with her on that one. This isn’t anything new though. Even exercising has shown to be a better and improves mental wellness based on a University of Vermont study.

Absolutely. People have to get over their doctor worship. I worked with doctors and watched them hand these scripts out without a second thought. Sometimes people just need exercise. Seriously, before going on meds, go for a long walk. If you feel better, then THAT is the cure.

Not a lie, but also feeds into the stigma that medicine for depression is bad. Ideally, it should be case-by-case, but I'd rather over-prescribe than someone not get the help they need. Wouldn't even be a problem if therapy was more affordable/accessible

-
And I'm aware of teens who have psychotic breaks as a result of taking anti-depressants, so I understand both sides of the argument. Medication should definitely be a last resort BUT people shouldn't feel bad about needing it, either. If that makes sense?

Yeah she's correct. Capitalism is doing wonderful these days. Well at least for the trump and the elites.

I have no idea whether what she says is true, but whenever someone tells me that some topics are not to be discussed, I always wonder why that is.

Something like 1 in 6 Americans are on some form of anti-anxiety/depressant now. This isn’t Marianne consulting with her spirit guide and pulling it out of thin air, as I’m sure it will be framed by the people who don’t like her.

She’s like this maddening blend of crazy and common sense. I find her equal parts interesting and infuriating.

If you want to really go down the rabbit hole, look into how Prozac came about. Then, look at the effectiveness v. placebo. These drugs are an industry of their own. Vets give them to dogs now. The "wonder" drug that rarely works, but always carries side effects. Some deadly.
