My personal rise up the food chain has made me less conspiratorial. Most of what people correctly identify as conspiracies (Google algorithm rigging) are done by middle managementrather than the “power elite.” Conservatives need more people working in HR. That’s where power is.

Who controls the narrative, is in a position of power. When you can control the narrative and the money, you have absolute power. That’s my take anyway.

HR is one of the most common vectors through which social justice infiltration occurs in large organizations. It's an effective way to drive corporate culture, especially through the hiring and recruiting process.

Exactly. Excellent point. Risk averse middle managers inside a echo chamber culture may seems like a conspiracy.

Respectfully, I have a different experience. I have worked at several large "tech" companies and have sold to 100's and I can tell you 100% that the culture comes from the top down. HR only has one job and that's to keep culture and get rid of anyone that doesn't fit in.

It really depends on the company. A VERY large telecom company that I'm in the process of leaving is essentially held hostage by HR. They have ridiculous rules about rank & time & it's one of the reasons I'm leaving. Even if VPs & above agree on waving a rule HR has blocked it

In general, HR mandate is to protect the company + keep talent. That all depends on what the company general is i.e. startup, mid, large and industry etc.

I spent 10 years in Silicon Valley and HR was _always_ staffed and run by the worst people. Outside of SV and HR is still staffed by the worst people but the wokeness factor is dialed down a notch.

The LIBOR rigging scandal really makes this clear. It was a network of guys in key spots doing each other favors, not the top executives called together to implement The Plan. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libor_scandal …

It's people banding together to preserve their gigs. It happens at every single level of a company. The difference is, these are people in charge of things that affect my life, so I actually give a shit and it bothers me when people think they are altruists.
