My son is 15yo and right in their sweet spot, but he and his mates mock these “influencers” openly. They use the phrase, “You should TikTok that” as an insult. Teenagers are weird - half seem to be hooked on “influencer culture” and the other half mock it mercilessly.

This is the new iteration of mass media celebrity culture. But all this has gone on long enough for its dysfunctional negative aspects to become clear. So a segment of Gen Z is counter-reacting. One bet I'd make is that young anti-influencer influencers will become a big thing.

**Also, social media is so much more transparent and understood that I suspect there's much more of an emperor-has-no-clothes effect working against "influencers" who put up too much of a facade.
