Tax university endowments 50%. Use this money to pay off student loans. Make those who scammed teenagers - the colleges and universities - take personal responsibility for what they've done.

Doubled and tripled tuition fees were a direct result of Obama's decision to have the government guarantee ALL student loans. Banks used to look at the education being applied for to see if completing the education would mean the student would be able to repay.

Could colleges be required to collateralize their endowment against loans? There’s no way an engineering degree should be treated the same as a fine arts degree.

I went to Arkansas because it was cheaper than going to the school I wanted to (Auburn). Students who choose to go to a more expensive school just because (not for the education) should have to pay for that difference on their own.

They don’t go “just because”. And the only reason it’s more expensive is because it’s more desired.

I’m not talking about Ivy League or prestigious school. I’m talking about going to an out of state school for the sake of it. I would get the same education at auburn as I would at Arkansas, but for over triple the cost.

Fwiw, most of the south has the academic common market. If you want a major that isn’t offered at your school - you can attend another and receive in state tuition.https://www.sreb.org/programs-services …

There is so much money in university endowments it's not even funny, and that's what we know about...I bet an investigation would show there's a lot more university money that is hidden from view...and possibly illegally

I could get behind this. I think the University of Michigan endowment alone is between $3-$7 billion....

Make the universities loan their students money. They have to invest endowments on something, are their students not a good investment?

Most of university endowments are in the stock market. Probably helping to stabilize people's retirement funds. They move the money somewhere the government can't touch or give up on the endowment model by charging higher tuition.
