There is literally a movie called “The Killing Fields” about a New York Times reporter, Sydney Schanberg, and his Cambodian friend and translator, Dith Pran, who stayed behind when the reporter left and survived the Killing Fields.
It was nominated for multiple Academy Awards.
Also Nixon and Kissinger paved the way for the Khmer Rouge with their 1970 coup and year-long bombing campaign. This is known.
And the Vietnamese defeated the Khmer Rouge meanwhile Reagan pushed to make Pol Pot the UN recognized leader of Cambodia in the 80s even though he had long been removed from power

Do not judge everything with just prejudice. During the Khmer Rouge, the name of the country was Democratic Republic of Cambodia. And, finally Vietnamese communists put the end to this regime, liberated many victims from jails, while the rest of the World kept silent...

I went to Cambodia 3 years ago and it was seriously eye opening. I’d never been taught anything about what happened there and in a lot of ways, it’s still happening.
