Trump lies out of habit, but it's worth noting how it works for him as President. Some people believe the lies, which helps him. His fans love the chutzpah of lying so brazenly, which helps him. And his opponents focus their energy pointing out that he lies, which helps him.
His lies usually trivial unlike Obama’s (you like your doctor, keep your doctor) and Bush (WMD’s). And I’m not convinced trump lies more than other politicians. He receives more scrutiny and his “puffing” is treated literally, which isn’t norm or other politicos.

No other politician has such an insatiable need to get attention & make themselves look good, even if it requires untruthing or lying (knowingly untruthing). Most politicians seem to do it to push a policy rather than for themselves, to look good!

It's different cos Trump puts EVEN LESS effort or time into checking how true or false his words are, or the other consequences of his actions. I suppose if he doesn't know what is true (cos he doesn't check or accept it) then he isn't lying but is just untruthing.
