Not speaking for Mike, but I would imagine it's due to their willingness to stand up for their principles in a manner that most Westerners simply no longer are. Since their values do actually overlap with Western ones at times, they will eventually be the only ppl defending them

You know what I always wonder about: Why can’t people of overlapping principles rally behind the banner of protecting these principles they share? It could be family values, or the right to practice your religion and peaceful assembly.

I don't think that is as rare as it can sometimes appear. I mean, that's what we do in America 99% of the time, we just don't see it reflected in the media/Hollywood because that reality doesn't sell movie tickets or help with TV ratings.
