Dog ticks actually can carry Rocky mountain spotted fever, so I would say neither are very pleasant to run into.

I too had Lymes but I caught it about a month after contracting when rings started showing up. Never got much worse than achy knees. I know people who had it much much worse so I consider myself lucky
