Correct. Unfortunately it’s too easy to frame negatively. “Damnit buybacks!” , buybacks don’t mean that money disappears into the ether. Investors likely take that money and spend it or invest in more worthy projects/companies.

Money that's "sitting in accounts" gets used by the account-owning banks to loan out to people buying homes and starting businesses, etc., right?
