This line of thinking is stupid. “Wonder if Cernovich would of served during the revolutionary war” “I wonder if they would serve if a black hole opens up” “I wonder what the world would be like if Z was at the beginning of the alphabet”

I'd guess a large percentage of them because we did have the draft

We can start with Reagan, he served in WWII. Pretty impressive that while trying to be a movie star, he enlisted in the reserves. Didn’t serve overseas due to bad eyesight but some say his service prevented him from being a big movie star.

and I can be honest and admit that I wouldn't run to enlist and fight in the European or Pacific theaters! It is easy for us to see how AWFUL D-Day really was and to acknowledge that doesn't make us cowards or pussies...we are just different. of course I'd serve is drafted

Only a handful at best. Different mentality back then. Before people could only visualize war when they were in it. Now various forms of media produced realistic depictions of war. People now less willing to volunteer for the real thing, but they’ll vote for someone else to go.

Sure, but I’m focusing on how we visualize it. Big difference on the psyche between seeing a statistic and seeing a realistic portrayal. Probably why we’re aware of the atrocities of Nazi Germany, but mostly unaware of the nature of genocides that clamied millions of more lives.

Your use of the word pundit answers the question, methinks. In their defense, they would have been joined at the bar by everyone on the "Left"
