This is one of the things that should be addressed in an internet bill of rights i.e. that a tech company can't limit or deprive you of other services besides their social media platform regardless of what rules you may have violated on the platform.

This is a good point to make regarding the internet of things. Why couldn't this person just manually adjust the thermostat though?

Yup. Someone is going to try and use the opportunity to codify what shouldn’t be able to be disabled for “TOS violations”. It will create a whitelist of untouchable devices that will effectively serve as our permission to blacklist everything else as they please.

Why anyone would use a SMART app in their home is a mystery to me. I won't even let the utility company manage my thermostat - I told them I paid the bill, I decide my house temperature. Get rid of those things, all they do is control your life and spy on you.
