Mike consistently RT me for years. No question it helped me build a following. I will always be grateful for that. But to folks just starting - even with support from a major node - you gotta have good content otherwise it won’t matter.
Twitter is an impossible social network to gain momentum on without a node promoting you. Entrenched players focus on ways of banning and policing others, where as Product should be focusing on ways to answer this problem - You sign onto twitter with 0 followers. Now, how do you get the attention of someone with a big following? Lead with giving. Review their book. Do them a small favor. Be original and consistent. Never ever ever just come out and ask for RT or promotions. Big players have a million people bugging them for stuff.

I remember when Mike and Scott Adams got together. How did that happen? From my perspective it started when Mike reviewed Scott’s book how to fail at almost everything. And thus began their productive relationship. You think Mike said - hey would you RT my stuff? Lol.

(In this case Mike might have had a bigger following at the time but because of Scott’s celebrity status, the example still holds.)

Mike always pushed the idea of breaking your tweets into thirds: 1/3 micro blog 1/3 promote your self 1/3 promote others That method worked wonders for me. When you promote others you’re building the base that fills in behind you. Even big guys need 100 medium ones in support

So bottom line is this: Want to get ahead on social? Be a real live human, act with giving and kindness, be original, and get out there and make some friends.

I used to grow and grow , now I either maintain or lose followers, twitter won’t let me go above 8k , dripped 200 followers couple months ago when I got close, been at this number about a year now engagements up though , frustrating
