Nigel split the vote when he left UKIP & gave ammo to the smear merchants in that process. He scored a short term win for a long-term loss IMO cuz U.K. has a ton of issues beyond Brexit & they need a party like UKIP for the future of a non-authoritarian Britain.

Wrong analysis. It's much simpler. People believed the smear campaign vs UKIP that they are racists, and voted on Farage without fear of being called racist.
