I just found out that groups of people are beginning to us social media to organize pen pal groups where people send their Facebook connects actual handwritten letters. I like this option.
Long before others I said, - The future of the Internet is small. Since then many tech execs talk about dangers of social media, people are starting smaller membership groups. Soon people will start meeting in real life!

That is so cool! Back in the day, the back of pre-teen magazines had penpal listings. I spent $1300 of my babysitting money for a round-trip flight to Denmark where my 13 year old self stayed for a month! We exchanged LETTERS to set up ONE call to coordinate. SMH right now.

We had penpals in my school as kids. We emailed kids from the Netherlands once a week. It was great for me, being of Dutch heritage

Yes. We did that, too. I had penpals in Egypt, Iran, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy. How would kids do it today, while being kept safe? My kids are grown but I would never have allowed "what we did in the 70s/80s." I hope they find a way. Maybe through church communities?

Would not be surprised to see something like Usenet make a comeback. Our misc.kids friend group got together in the early 1990s for a huge California picnic in SoCal. NextDoor still has a small feeling to it.

Overdue, to previous generations I'm tame in a crowd. With millenials(member) I'm the life of the party. Art of small talk, edgy jokes, and good nature are seemingly rare. Can't wait until it comes back around. I miss the crowds.
