Also had coping mechanisms (aside from "self-medication") now in decline.

Alcoholism and suicide and domestic violence were huge issues, lol at thinking this generation somehow got "soft." Read Aristotle, Cicero and all the classics people claim to adore. There was little alcoholism, suicide or domestic violence among the cohort of evangelicals, of which my dad came from. It was an entirely different situation with my Catholic mother’s family. In short a lot more alcoholism and social pathology with them.
