Dinner with a good friend, he asked how I was doing. I said, "Doing great man. It's all coming together." I asked him the same, he said, "I feel terrible." I laughed, "OK we are being honest. I feel like shit, I get colds that linger for days and wondered if it was just me."

A day or two later (one sign of "burnout" is you don't know what happened on any given day, they all blend together) I'm with another friend. He had a mid-seven figure year last year. (This isn't random people whining.) "I can't focus more than 30 seconds anymore." BURNOUT.

What is "burnout" and why do people not feel comfortable talking about it?https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/high-octane-women/201311/the-tell-tale-signs-burnout-do-you-have-them …

Fortunately for me, I know when burnout is setting in and how to manage / mitigate it. The biggest problem, of course, is Type A people are most prone to burnout, and lease likely to do this stuff. (They think they can "push through" burnout.) Some tips....

When feeling burnout coming (be mindful of signs and symptoms), - Drop caffeine cold turkey. Yes, this sucks, you'll have headaches and feel completely drained for 48 to 72 hours. 8 years ago, due to a serious caffeine habit, it took me two weeks to full withdraw.

One response when talking about "burnout" is the tough guys talking about how grandpa at the dock never felt it. Which is bullshit. Many bars operated at mini banks to cash checks on payday. Alcoholism / self- medication was prevalent, as were many other issues.

The subject of burn out at the work place is absolutely Taboo. It’s along the lines of stress, sick time, and depending on the field of work...Vacations!. In my field, Financial Industry, you travel and check work emails constantly even on vacations.

Life work balance is gone. I got sick of being made to feel guilty requesting PTO I earned. My boss thinks post a 10 hour day a 2 hour phone call in the evening is just fine. I finally said look, you need to schedule my time when I am outside of work of if you need it. Push back

I cant get the energy to function on the weekends to do anything productive. Between work & single parent. the pressure to keep customers, bosses, and kids happy sucks the life out of me. In the end they may not all be ecstatic, but they are all generally happy...all except me.

We all get burnt out. I talk to my friends about it lots. We usually joke about it, but we just push each other through. It's nice to have a support system of people you trust, even if it's only 4-6 people :)

perfectionists plan for burnout. and then they resign, runaway to an island and try to finish a script forever.

Weight lifting late at night keeps me sane...it forces me to work my day around a 10 pm workout. Basically I eat early and make a point to relax with the family so my food can digest before then (also keeps away booze which is even worse than caffeine)

Passed out at 4pm the other day then woke up and threw up a couple times...took several years for burnout to catch up...it did. Slowing down and learning how to say no now.
