I gotta say, I’ve asked that question about American politics on more than one occasion and never get a good answer. If some serious right-wing group turned up to an Antifa “event” with the intent of taking a stand, there would be a reckoning. That’s what the left want.

At that point, the gloves are off and then the Left finally sees the "gun violence problem" on full display. And I don't think it stops there. Like, not to be a stereotype, but that ends up being a full scale civil war.

The problem is, the authoritarians also control most of media, therefore they hide/distract from/excuse *their* violence, while amplifying/exaggerating/and provoking the opposition's violence.

They're also slowly gaining control over military and police hiring, conduct, and retention standards. Once they do, they can simply replace the existing personnel with loyalists.

They are counting one our restraint. And so far a lot of places have looked the other way (e.g. Portland, Berkeley) while Leftists brought weapons to the streets and attacked people.

No. But to be fair, authoritarians usually seize the means of production, confiscate the weapons, indoctrinate the youth, break up the family unit, and starve people out before initiating violence against the people.
