100% agree. I think even @realDonaldTrump would agree. This is a bipartisan issue.
What is the cost of developing and testing hundreds of drugs to arrive at one final production-ready drug, versus the cost of making the final drug in a factory?
US Government lets pharma companies charge US consumers to develop products for the rest of the world. As soon as we pull the plug on that bs (drug reimportation would be a good start), prices would equalize. I don't think that's what @AOC is looking for tho.
Koch Brothers are globalist establishment GOP, a place where terms “right wing” and “left wing” are quite nebulous.
What is it they say about broken clocks..
Trump has pushed hard aginst high rx prices and is trying to force these companies to be transparent. For all people may not like about him, they should be behind him on this.
Drug/procedure pricing is a sham. If you do not have coverage the cash price is cheaper than what compabies charge insurance. Simple ways to milk money and control prices to benefit everyone EXCEPT the consumer.
Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, basically we negotiate a cheaper price and then the government pays the difference. It works rather well.
I'm thinking people in the US are single handedly paying for R&D, and inflated salaries of the upper executives. Just mygut making guess.
Essentially the US is subsidizing the worlds pharmaceuticals, the whole healthcare industry is a giant mess, with everyone grabbing all the money they can, because the people have no other option. Drugs are an inelastic good.
Everyone's got a piece of the puzzle.
We're just waiting for a catalyst to cause the stars to align.
You can quote me on that.
I've only been saying it since 2016.

Simply because pharma companies contract lower prices with other Countries and makes up massive profits back in the States.
She actually has some very good social points that both sides can agree on.
Problem with your system is insurance companies and drug Co's are way too strong and all hospitals run by insurance Co's as well. A standardized fee system would not be a bad start - set fees for procedures and cap margins on more critical drugs like chemotherapy for example
Patents on "use"; is that different than on the actual drug?https://www.poz.com/article/cdc-patent-prep-advocates-find …
They know down to the dollar how much it cost to develop and how much it cost to manufacture. I'm not saying it's cheap but it would be interesting to see those numbers itemized and justified.
This seems to be a mere disconnect between patent right expiration amongst countries. Comparing an $8 generic (patent expired) to an in-force patent which is designed to provide a return to investors for a set period of time seems questionable.
