We don't even need government regulation of Facebook, just take away their government-granted immunity under Section 230, treat them like every other publisher. That would eliminate their monopoly power overnight.https://twitter.com/jeffgiesea/status/1124064711249747969 …

The case for regulating Facebook has never been stronger: >it controls about half of all American social media activity >it has a decidedly partisan orientation >it’s decisions impact the functioning of democratic system >it’s reckless with our data https://link.medium.com/nwScWJV7mW

Almost every time for if we need more government, the answer is always NO. Notice how removing a government statue would solve the problem? Less Government the better.

I really hope this ban was a step too far, that will trigger some kind of legal intervention. Rebuking their Section 230 immunity sounds like a good approach, and I'm sure there are other ways to deal with them, but I'm worried Trump is too frightened to actually fight them.

People act like congress didn’t just embolden Zuckerberg with that weak sauce hearing a few months ago. This problem will not be solved in Washington D.C.

Regulate it. It’s no different than a utility, basically a phone company. Regulation will mean they start charging but with the forced guarantee of neutrality it will actually attract more customers.

They can be public utilities or publishers, they cannot be both.

Six one way, half dozen the other. The problem is which side of the ideological coin lands face up. More regulation means bigger government. Less protections means more responsibility on behalf of the organization itself. I like the latter. If corporations are persons, show it.

How would that help? If they are liable for whatever anyone posts, they will have to increase censorship dramatically in order to survive.
