I like to point out how Christianity indirectled caused the creation of Islam. Pagan Churches throughout Rome imported huge amounts of frankincense from the deep south Saudi peninsula. Made those locals very wealthy. But Rome started going broke and eyed pagan gold.

-
Constantine made Christianity the official religion, allowing him to pilfer err the pagan temples for gold. As a result, demand for frankincense dried up, sending the Incense Road into a dire, multi-century depression. Until one incense trader named Mohammad appeared.
-
That incense trader unified the many tribes under his prophecy and led a conquest of Roman peripheries for the sole purpose of restarting the incense trade and making sure the culture was in place to KEEP IT trading.
-
We know him as the prophet Mohammad today, but he started out as a pissed off incense trader who was nostalgic for the glory days when Roman demand made that region beyond wealthy.

The problem with Islam, and why it desperately needs reform, is that it’s a hybrid of religion and politics. There needs to be a clear separation of church and state and that doesn’t appear to be the case or the desire for many, if not most, of its followers.

It's a religion... of hate.

I’d say religions in the most general term have extremists on all sides. Some are more violent than others. A single person who follows Islam is no more likely a bad person than one who follows Christianity. It’s the generalities that need to be addressed. Violence is wrong.

Better to explore what is and what is not a religion. Compare to cults. Size, in terms of followers is not a good indicator. Popularity does not make a religion. Religions carry dogmas on treating people, esp., women children & the poorest.
