If you take out California where Trump did not campaign in the general election, Trump wins the popular vote in the rest of the 49 states. It's not that California doesn't count, but that wasn't the game either candidate's priority was trying to win.
Hillary won the popular vote, Trump won the electoral college by 90,000 votes across 4 states. Please keep nonsense out of my timeline. Last I knew too, all but 2 states gave all of their EC votes according to popular vote in their state. That's exactly how the EC was developed so that NY, LA, CHI don't decide every election. People thinking of the popular vote without that context is a real problem.

He won a lot of squeakers when Dems were demoralized. Dems are amped now, demography is on their side, etc. Trump stopped presenting himself as fighting for the American worker, didn't deliver for them, it will cost him those states.
