When Seattle raised to $15hr you saw an increase in store closures and lay offs and price increases. A 16yr old does NOT deserve $15hr period. There needs to be minimum wage tiers not a blanket increase. Stores will close, costs will rise and people will be fired.

Can you clarify your comment about what 16 yr olds deserve - exactly how is that relevant? Do you think only 16 yr olds work for min. wage? Do artificially high min. wages keep young people out of the job market because employers like @manchguy1982 think they don’t serve it?

Are you dumb or just stupid? You’re implying the minimum wage should be higher to support adult employees potentially with families right? Here’s a thought, if you’re an adult still at minimum wage that’s YOUR fault, not the employer. Get some skills and find a better job.

Minimum wage is for entry level positions, so yeah, 16 year olds, or in my case I was working at 14 for $7.25/hr. However, I got an education, applied myself, and now work for much more than that. This is simple stuff folks.

I own a restaurant in Wa. $12 min. My kitchen staff make way more than that. It’s been going up due to the fact there are so many jobs and the pay must be better to get the employees. If the economy is shit, there are less jobs and lower wages. It happens on its own.

And that’s when things are going well. When economy slows jobs will plummet because businesses really won’t be able to afford those workers. Messing with natural supply and demand always has consequences.

Average entry level position in America is 13.00 per hour. The market will push wages up if the Gov stays out of the way.

Maybe raise prices. (Only a maybe.) Only cut hours if they are over staffed. Your implication is rising prices will reduce business volume. #unlikely. Do you buy less gas because it’s 10cents higher today than yesterday? The economy is expanding which raises all boats.

People on the margin do consume less gas when prices go up. Not all driving is discretionary. Minimum wage laws only harm people with the lowest skills. Seattle demonstrated this.

I’m sorry but I’m still not clear on your answer. You “concluded” which infers extrapolation of data (modeling) or did you “observe” which means it actually happened. Simply put: Did the reduction in hours worked actually occur as predicted by the models.

I’m not concerned with numerical predictions from models. Basic laws of supply and demand suggest that a price floor causes a supply surplus. When the supply is labor hours, the surplus is work hours. The least-skilled are the first to go.pic.twitter.com/Fo6EEbGlel
