History lesson: The USA had a provision of succession in the Constitution. The one thing States were not allowed to do was form a compact. It's far more nuanced that Robert E. Lee BAD. That war was about States rights.

Aaaaand slavery. Im all for teaching people about all facets of the war, but to pretend the civil war was about “state rights” is misguided. “State rights” was a major issue, but let’s not ignore the importance of the discrepancy of slavery.
