Some thoughts on a book I read recently..... It’s a soldier’s story of a deployment and also his own struggles with identity and coming home. What would America look like if that $7 trillion spent in Iraq and Afghanistan had been kept home? We’d be living in a sci fi novel.

Set between love and war, the man struggles with life as a Joe, then NCO, then a wounded warrior in the VA... all while obsessing over a woman who, in any other era, he’d have been too good for.pic.twitter.com/rRrurc0DRs

A great book is one that immerses you into the protagonist’s world. And is relatable. (That’s why it shows a form of illeracy when conservatives dismiss representation of groups in media and books.) If you’re a man, you’ll love the hell out of this.https://www.amazon.com/Breakfast-Dirt-Cult-Samuel-Finlay/dp/0615622992 …

Never fond, before or after. In this Republic, as citizen and soldier, it is a delicate balance between service and criticism. My own political v. service crisis was Bosnia 1999. Got the job done, left a bad taste.
