If we're 'forgiving' student loans, we might as well 'forgive' credit card debt, auto loans, and mortgages. Where does it end?

You could allow discharge at bankruptcy like most other types of debt.
-
Also the endowments should pay fines or erase the interest. There needs to be a middle ground. We can bail out the banks 10 years ago, right? Why not bail out the people?
-
It is a big moral hazard for the lenders because without the possibility of bankruptcy discharge, they dont have to care much about whether the loan is viable investment in human capital.

Ah, but see you already are via the effects of inflation on the dollar caused by government spending on student loans with artificially low interest rates.

Dear Mike, Don't try to pay off my student loan debt. It's mine and I'll do it myself.

Something has to be done. At least make it easier/possible for people to pay them off. The numbers are staggering and folks are struggling.

Quit being so greedy and pay these doctors engineers women’s studies professors and lawyers student loans man you’re doing well it’s your social responsibility to take care of others that are quite capable of taking care of themselves but choose to be irresponsible with finances
-
You realize This DOESNT apply to the grad school programs right? So all the people you listed will still have $250K of debt. They just won’t have $250K plus undergrad debt
-
Either way anyone that took out loans for school or cars or homes should be responsible for repayment of the debt not other people or government or taxpayers

The government makes a lot of money on interest payments for student loans. A good compromise would be this: End federally backed student loans. Use interest. The amount of collected interest would cover this plan and give a tax rebate to people who didn’t go to college.

@KamalaHarris supports the more responsible position of forgiving debt for those who go in to public service. This is smart and not irresponsible and pandering. -

Forgiving debt of those who pledge years of their life help society is better than writing off up to $50k in debt to those who racked up irresponsible student loans and do nothing for that money. Yes, the former is better.
