When I was growing up my parents saved their hard earned money to buy me a bike. Growing up this was a luxury given that we were really struggling. There were times that my school shoes had holes in them and often times my clothes didn’t fit right.

Getting a bike was a big deal. Not just for myself, but also for my parents. One day my father decided to take me to the park so that I can ride on the concrete basketball court.
-
As we go outside, to our shock, we caught an adult male together with his son in the process of stealing my brand new bike. What a contrast. One the one hand, my father, worked long hours as a construction worker struggling to provide for his family.
-
In the other hand a father is literally teaching his son that it’s okay to steal from another person. I will never forget the look on his face. With a nonchalant smile he immediately returned my bike - after my dad screamed at him.
-
That day has always stayed with me. I knew right then how much value I received from my dad despite our financial hardship.

@aClassicLiberal Guarantee that the poor are greater victims of theft and its dis-spiriting effects than are the wealthy, living in guarded neighborhoods far from those who "need" their stuff. -
They say no charges if the person who stole the item “needs it” WHAT IF the person who got the item taken needed it?

That was my first thought. Poor-on-poor crime (a large amount of crime?) leaves victims with no legal recourse under this scheme. Seems very dangerous for the poor.

#Democrats aren't even pretending to care about law and order anymore. -
No "economic gain"? What does the thief need the bike for? To get to work?

The wages of sin is death. You said it on a podcast. I remember. Thank you for that. That 'judge' will learn soon enough.
