The lack of interaction in daily “real” life tends to have many migrate to social media platforms. Not so much to influence others but to connect in a world that differs from the everyday mundane.
You can be mediocre and keep a job as large companies have margins to cover waste. You can't be mediocre or even merely good and make it online. People trying to get into the "influencer" world or whatever it's called would be better off keeping their day jobs!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I realized. Well, that, and the fact that YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter all suppress or demonetize or ban a lot.... that really discourages me from really trying to dig into trying to make it online. Also, the fact that I edit videos for others...

Same goes with private businesses and Gov. You can be terrible at your job in the Gov and retire with better benefits than most jobs, but being bad in the private industry will get you fired.

Teachers are a glaring example. Anything with a public sector union breeds complacency. This extends all the way through any socialistic type system. It's like a disease.
