I was there in Paris with my kids last Saturday in a hotel near Place du Trocadero where the Gilets Jaunes were demonstrating. There was apparently no one there opposing them, so no violence.The police were present in droves, but non threatening. We walked nearby and felt safe.

I was in Venice Italy in the early 2000s and a G7 or some such protest was going on. Holy crap. Holy Crap The Italian riot police certainly didn't fuck around. They were beating people that had been cuffed & confiscating any cameras (we had to plead to keep ours) crazyness
