So... being generous with his mother is NOT good for the son?

A son having to be the provider for their mom at 13 is not good. The woman needs to choose better man to reproduce with who will take care of her and their offspring (assuming the woman is not the reason the relationship ended).

Still tho, he step up and take responsibility when needed.
-
More importantly, he sacrificed something his liked for a greater good - a good for someone else. An uncommon act in Selfish-America to be sure.

Living in a single parent home is never the best environment to grow up in

He can only control himself. He had - basically - two options. Play video games and “go with it”, make a big change/sacrifice. Cultures stay the same until someone breaks the cycle. Generational learning is imperative. He’s trying to affect change. I think that outweighs any neg

First thing I thought: Why is this the story? Why isn't it that someone heard what was happening and found adult solutions to help this family? You are so right on this one, Mike. Thank you!

It shows he has empathy and compassion and has his priorities right! For people saying single parent family is bad, I’m sure it wasn’t the original plan, but at least she raised a hell of a kid who knows what being a good person is really about and has his priorities right!

Mom is lazy if a kid doing yard work can buy a car. That's all I care about this story.
-
Doubt he paid in full for the car. The seller probably let him off with a third of the price.
-
Yeah, that seems about right. I don't know the prices of used cars in the US, but here in Mexico they go around 40-120K MXN depending on conditions and model (2-10K US dollars) so the kid must have worked a LOT.

I am seeing a lot of judgement towards the single mom. Yes, it is better if a kid is born into a family with a mom and a dad but it helps NO ONE to attack the mom. Also, don't feel bad for the kid, he's already a bigger man that a lot of adult males out there

It could be, time will tell. It shows some sense of responsibility in overcoming what, in all likelihood, is a very poorly dealt hand.
