Young men without children live in fear of going broke, which strikes me as a major social failing. When you don't have obligations, that's when you go "all in." You go bankrupt? Not a big deal. Instead these men today won't take any risks!

I'm shocked SHOCKED that the first generation of American kids to be raised without any unsupervised play, 100% parental/adult interference at all times, etc. has grown into a group of 20-30ish people who are overly risk-averse

Started my business at 32 with 2 little kids, a mortgage and another on a rental home, left a good paying job. Had no choice except to succeed. Planted a garden in case it got real tough.

I've been through this, and a lot of it has to do with feeling as if you need to spend everything you have, saving none. This problem persisted even after I started making good money. Thankfully, having no major obligations, I was able to rebound out of this habit.
