Also - I recommend they each have an abacus and wooden blocks (cubes, preferably).
With those, my kids had a grasp on exponentiation before they hit grade school.

My favorite way to bring up bedtime: "Who's telling the story tonight, me, daddy, (sibling), or youuuuuuu?" (I have two now adult kids, literally never had an argument at bedtime.)
