Meh. She’s entitled to be annoyed. Just wish it would get as much attention that NPR consistently always mispronounces Ajit Pai’s name.

It's sad that she uses the "this is the Latino way", when in fact no one I know has ever used both surnames. Yes, we have both (paternal-maternal) but we only use the paternal surname.

She will forever be known simply as “Cortez”

I think Alex Cortez sounds..........normal. Of course, "normal" is not her way.

These are the same people who cry "Grammar Police!" all the time. Somehow, now grammar and pronunciation is important.

For the record, being latino myself, I have never known any other latinos with a hyphenated last name. It's not uncommon to have a middle name and last name from our parents, but not a hyphenated last name. Then again, "Latinx" is a fake ethnicity.

I actually like her but I thought that whole rant about her last name was a waste of time and irrelevant. It’s the norm for ppl with lengthy last names to be called by short form
