So my mom is in an mental institution and will probably live out the rest of her life there. Not a way I wanted to start off a thread, but my family has seen America's mental health system inside and out, and maybe others deal with these problems. Here goes....

Depression is treating using SSRIs, as it's believed to be a disease involving low serotonin. There are a lot of studies showing that depression is caused by inflammation. See, e.g., A Meta-Analysis of Oxidative Stress Markers in Depression. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26445247

An OTC supplement called N-acetyl cysteine has been studied extensively, and shows real promise for bipolar schizophrenia. - N-acetyl cysteine for depressive symptoms in bipolar disorder--a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18534556

I started taking N-A-C about 10 years ago when I noticed some mild "panic" symptoms. Due to family history, wasn't taking any chances. And the stuff worked for me. I wrote about and have heard from thousands others.https://www.cernovich.com/n-acetylcysteine-depression-bipolar-anxiety/ …

People who aren't smart mock supplements, but you can go onto PubMed and research N-acetyl cysteine (N-A-C) yourself. It's been well-studied and shows real promise for people, and it costs about $10 a month. Science is here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=N-acetyl+cysteine+depression …pic.twitter.com/dyNYZY1oq2

And a lot of mental health issues develop over time, due to stress. This course, which is ironic as those who need it most likely feel too fatigued to watch is, will change your life. Even if, like me, you're amp'ed up on life, watch it.https://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/stress-and-your-body.html …

I have severe (almost crippling) depression) and I can say Pep talks actually hurt me way more than just staying silent. Because I could see the happiness that was awaiting me to grab it, but It felt like my body would suddenly lose feeling and not move.

As someone that has depression, I really appreciate this tweet. It doesn't matter how much someone wants me to cheer up, the fact is that I still live every single day with a voice in the back of my mind telling me that it would be better if I just ended it.

i can relate... never goes away..

I get through it the same way I get through bouts of alcohol cravings. If yours gets bad, and you feel like there's nobody there, send me a DM. That goes for anyone that sees this tweet. I don't care how shitty my day is, or what I'm doing. If you need someone, I'm there.

all human emotion is a chemical interaction with the brain - whether those chemicals are exogenous or endogenous. I once read a book called "the 3 pound universe" and it was a bit depressing - as it fundamentally reduces emotion to chemical reactions. Is what it is, though.

Thank you
@Cernovich for bringing this issue to peoples attention. As you know i have suffered badly in the past. I am healed now but i think the demons are always lurking behind the curtain or in the crack of the doorway. I would help anyone with issues if they needed it.

I'd say at least some percentage is genetic. Like the way suicide rates are higher among t children of those who have committed suicide. Then there is the question of "is it really genetic more than exposer" etc hope I'm making sense. I'm exhausted atm

Vaccines cause depression. Mercury, aluminum, msg, (etc) breakdown of the blood-brain barrier that is needed for a healthy brain development. Military gets the most doses, thus the depression rate is higher, even for those who haven't seen combat...just a complex thought.
