It’s hard to not say my childhood influenced my politics. What do you do about the mentally ill? What I hear from so many, “They should have saved up for the medical bills!” The glibness with which serious issues are treated has always troubled me.
Socialism isn’t going to solve the problem, nor snide remarks about “They should have saved up more!” However, the drugs my mom needed cost 1/10th of the price charged in America. $1,200 in the U.S. Every month. $120 if you ordered them from Canada. Which is illegal.

Can you come up with a single legitimate argument in favor of the drug reimportation ban? Someone needs to organize a drive to get people with expensive medication requirements to buy abroad en masse. The optics of jailing sick people will help clear this logjam.

I think majority of us have a loved one that has mental issues. I am not for socialism either but I do believe in Gov. Programs that should help people that are unable to work with hospital bills, medication, housing, and counseling; if possible, we should make it legal to...

First, thanks for posting this. Second, every few weeks I write the President and my elected reps to request a law requiring pharma cos to sell to Medicare at the lowest price anywhere else in the world.
This is why leftists fight for universal healthcare, and why the healthcare discussion is skewed the way it is. We want a system that reflects the Canadian system, the system in the UK, and in Northern/Western Europe. The captains of industry want our money and don't care.
You ignore the fact that most of these socialist countries aren’t producing blockbuster drugs anywhere near the rate that the US is - if at all. They are relying on our research. This is priced into our drugs (along with other things that I can’t and don’t defend).

I have a good friend whose son has the same conditions as your mother. They’ve been through hell and they have paid through the nose for their son. It has strapped them. The psychiatric industry has a lousy infrastructure and I sure as hell don’t think socialism will fix it.
