I’d say better to allow them to endorse. Don’t “pay” them a salary (I can see the Title IX cases already), but allow them to profit off of their name and fame. This allows for local heroes and players in less popular sports to profit from their excellence as well.

So pay them when the NCAA and school use their name and/or likeness?
-
I would say they absolutely deserve a cut of that. Conversely I imagine the University/NCAA would get a fit on any individual deal a player made while representing their school.

Interesting take

Big time players would get big $ contracts, maybe enough for some of them to stay in school through graduation. And lesser-knowns might pick up deals from the hometown car dealer or something that will at least let them cash in and help set ‘em as they enter the real world.

You do realize they’d have to pay all the athletes not just the ones who pay revenue sports. You know like the gymnasts and rowing team
