A rather incomplete view, imho. Without going into the science of perception, a complete understanding of ANY system requires knowledge of BOTH internal AND external forces. Which is hardest and most painful varies with each individual.

there's additional reason why Jesus taught people to deny the flesh..it's because the body is the origin and seat of emotion, which is easily manipulated via external mechanism..it's a pathway to the mind, and without observing physiology, the mind can't dampen the feedback loop.
