Sounds wonderful, and has potential for widespread support. The catch - because there always is one and nothing is truly new - is that it would men the government controls more of where money goes. I'm not sure we trust politicians with more money than they already have.

WrongThinkers don’t have a right to UBI. Nor a right to speak, to access banking or means to pay. No right to a job. Travel, healthcare, going to a movie or restaurant depends on your social ranking. Give government more power. That’s the ticket! See China, read Solzhenitsyn.
