Can confirm. My primary motivation for exercise is fear of being disgusting to myself and others.

I have been to so many CrossFit gyms and I’ve seen nothing but relationships and lives being destroyed in them

-
How so?
-
More gym hookups than I can count, they break up relationships and marriages, this has happened so often at the 3 gyms I frequent and then there are more stories from people coming from other gyms... drama city!
-
Takes two people to hook up you can’t blame one over the other. That’s just the way society works.
-
Yeah I’m not blaming either person I’m just saying I saw a lot of lives/relationships completely destroyed and it’s prevalent at CrossFit gyms

Is everyone REALLY vain? I don’t know, I think most westerners today are incredibly insecure. Not sure insecurity and vanity mix well.

Yeah I have to agree with this. In my limited experience of meeting/knowing these types. They impress me, don’t get me wrong. But while the outside looks good the inside is just a mess

You mean the guy who makes $600 a week training who spends $600 a month on spray tans while cruising around in $799 Escalade lease ain’t good with finances? Shocking!

Being "fit" does provide confidence which helps in life, however its only a stepping stone and not the overall picture. Heading to the gym is a good way to battle depression amongst other things. Being "pro" is definitely vanity

It isn't really surprising. Carrying one aspect of life well beyond diminishing returns is great cover for not making hard decisions elsewhere. I bet there are plenty of other subcultures that have a similar pattern.

I work out to increase my capability. Same reason why I train BJJ. I may be vain but that isn't why I train. Some people were so unfit they were unable to run down flights of stairs to escape the twin towers.

Yeah but at least they look good naked. I’d take people who look good naked > people who don’t

It’s very polarizing, one group with outer muscle matching inner strength, another with outer muscle compensating for inner weakness

Everyone is addicted to something, money, food, sex, fitness, drugs. In each of these cases there is imbalance, it’s incredibly difficult to find someone with equal parts health, wealth and relationships.
