The only people who drink soda are poor people. How many ways can the elite tax and take away simple pleasures from those less fortunate? This has been tried in Philadelphia. People lost good jobs delivering soda, too. This law is evil, and I mean in every sense of the word.https://twitter.com/KTLA/status/1098360618854146048 …

Why not tax enriched flour products such as white bread or flour tortillas? How much obesity would that save?

Not every poor person drinks soda. Some of us limit our intake to no more than one small diet soda a day. Some of us drink.....wait for it.......WATER!

I think they're trying to make people stop drinking soda and using sugar so that it's not so big of a blow when the country goes to complete shit, and nobody can afford sugar anyway, when their communist policies destroy America. Trying to get people used to never getting it.

If the poor are the predominate pop drinkers(yeah, i said pop). Then this would be an indirect way of government to tax the poor and get some of that poor money action.

That too. Gotta get that $ while they can, while simultaneously conditioning people for when they just can't have it at all anymore.

Philadelphia has a sugar tax and it's killing the mom and pop stores. I go right over the bridge and buy all sugary drinks in New Jersey it's worth the $5 toll.

This is a good point. It’s also the case with other vice: cigs, alcohol, etc. There is, however, a strong public health argument. Individual poor choices can turn into staggering public health costs. Taxes (higher price) have a long history of dissuading costly behavior
