Though a “year” is meaningless in sense, arbitrary bright lines can be useful. If each year you focused on building a new skill, after 5 you’d be hard to beat. After 10, unstoppable. Scott Adams calls this talent stacking, which is similar to Charlie Munger’s mental models....

Mental model is concept from Charlie Munger. When you develop new skills, which should be your focus, your mental model updates. Good background article here:https://fs.blog/mental-models/

Example - video editing is a SKILL. But when you learn how video editing works, through learning skill, your MENTAL MODEL updates, because you develop healthy skepticism of news media and how it’s delivered. You interpret the news differently after learning a skill.

Scott Adams lost millions of dollars. Years ago he wrote articles about why Trump was persuasive and would probably win. Adams was and is a liberal. Nevertheless he lost his speaking gigs, which were lucrative. Listen / read about it here.https://www.cernovich.com/book-review-scott-adams-win-bigly-persuasion-in-a-world-where-facts-dont-matter/ …

I saw Scott at a conference in Baltimore. A lot of times speakers don't live up to their reputation but he was as inspirational as I had hoped.

9 to 5: Earning your living. 5 to 9: Following your dream.

For those disciplined enough to actually do so, it is remarkable how quickly the "dream" part becomes work, life becomes the dream, and everything just sort of "coincidentally" starts to work out from the subject's perspective. Stay alert.

Long ago, before broadband was widely available, a friend was trying to get an ISDN line set up and the lack of useful info was baffling. He ended up talking to
@scottadams , whose name we all already knew well. -
Did I help? Seems unlikely.
