As usual, men (yes, it's always men) who have never made a film tell me more about how documentaries work. There is NO REASON other than dishonesty (or not having budget) to not release FULL INTERVIEWS. Parts that are off the record are easily redacted.

That's a really good point and it never occurred to me. I watch a lot of documentaries but never considered how much unused footage there has to be and that possibly a lot of it is cut because it doesn't support the narrative. Doh.

They're probably under dosens of NDAs, and other contracts that forbid it.

Would any of them sign an NDA allowing the interviewee the right to review and edit before release? I would think the NDA would end at restricting which questions and topics but that what the person said on the record was on the record. Maybe not though.
