Interesting (read: stupid) take. Without social media, their (and their families) lives would never have been threatened over a non-event. Social media is a HUGE negative on our society.

It can be both in some cases. This would be a perfect example.

20 years ago before the advent of almost everyone being a field photo/video journalist, they might have gotten away with it. Social media has provided the perfect check and balance to their narrative.pic.twitter.com/vAQaKh2v0v

My take on Mike's statement is if the media witch hunts an innocent party to promote their narrative, that party's life would be over. However, social media has the capability to counter the media's unjust narrative(s) where there was no recourse before.

Yes, because we would have only seen the little clip the went along with Phillips' made up story. His version didn't originate on social media. With social media the full video was out there for everyone to see the truth.

Without social media the press wouldn’t even have reported it, because back then they were journalists and it wouldn’t rise to the level of national news. But journalism is dead now so there’s that...

I still think your real-time work on that Convington press coverage was your finest twitter work — a due diligence masterpiece. Your work pulled other big-hitters in too. Thank goodness.

Did you see The Orville episode “Majority Rule”? It was a chilling take on this. As a Brit I had to explain the whole Covington kids debacle to my wife and she couldn’t quite believe it.

It’s all about the edit!! You can twist anything you want these days and sadly many (most) “journalists” want/need the shock factor rather than what the real story actually is!! It’s really very sad!

With the coming lawsuits, we’ll see who’s lives will be over. I have 0% sympathy for the media hacks who firstly jumped on this story, and then secondly, doubled down on reporting it as fact, even after it was shown to be untrue. The kid will retire long before you.

Without Social Media, we probably would have never heard of this incident. But yes, ultimately, it was a national travesty what the "media" did to those kids was truly abhorrent.
