Show US (e.g. Hitchcock), French (e.g. Truffaut), British (e.g. "Carry On," Mrs. Marple) films from late 50s/early 60s, ask audience to observe carefully not the action but its background: the streets, ppl on those streets, what they wear, how they behave. And watch them cry.
