The real problem with whataboutism is that evil people simply don't give a damn about being exposed as hypocrites. Only honest people care about it. This is a huge weakness for conservatives, who try to win the honesty and consistency game, but they are the only one playing it.

I haven't yet met a conservative who argues in good faith. But i guess that's true of both sides in certain respects.

If you’re looking for consistency you won’t find it in the media.

I placed my work of art, same size, same set of colors, next to an original Picasso. I demanded the gallery to give me the same pay for the same work.

If it wasn’t for double standards, the media would have no standards at all

Yep. Calling something Whataboutism is an anti-concept. It's meant to shut down thought. Similar to the equally silly Godwin's Law.

You foolishly endear modern politicians with the brains and passion of ancient. Whataboutism was employed as a form of rhetoric in order to stimulate critical debate. Today, politicians use whataboutism to deflect or escape from critical debate.

It's weird that you would cite a Greek. If he were alive today, you'd be screaming about "he will not replace us".

True. It's the quickest way to illustrate hypocrisy too. So many people don't like it because it reveals the ugly truths in less than a sentence.

Socratic method is part of a classical education, which is why I homeschool.

There is a difference between showing two sets of bad behaviors and saying both are bad to avoid hypocrisy and excusing bad behavior of one kind because of bad behavior of another kind. Whataboutism is the latter, the first is simply wrongly lumped in with it out of ignorance/

Whataboutism (appeal to hypocrisy) is absolutely NOT a form of the Socratic method, and you are full of shit. It's a logical fallacy and bad-faith argument tactic designed to side-track, and was a core part of the Nazi Germany and Stalinist USSR's propaganda playbooks.
